Free Guide to Macy's Online Account and Billing
Understanding Your Macy's Online Account Basics
A Macy's online account is a personal profile you create on Macy's website that stores your shopping information and preferences. This account serves as your gateway to shopping on macys.com and managing your purchases. When you create an account, you provide basic information like your name, email address, and password. Your account then remembers details about your shopping habits, saved items, and previous purchases.

Your Macy's online account operates independently from a Macy's credit card, though you can link them together. Many customers create accounts simply to shop online without having a store credit card. The account itself is free to create and maintain. You do not pay any annual fees or membership charges for having a Macy's online account.
The main purposes of a Macy's online account include tracking your orders, viewing your purchase history, saving items to a wish list, and managing your payment methods. When you place an order, the account stores information about what you bought, when you bought it, and where it was shipped. This history remains available for you to review at any time by logging into your account.
Macy's online accounts use encryption and security measures to protect your personal information. Your password should be unique and contain a mix of letters, numbers, and special characters to maintain security. You should never share your password with anyone, and Macy's employees will never ask for your password through email or phone.
Practical Takeaway: Creating a Macy's online account takes about five minutes and requires only an email address and password. Once created, your account will save time on future purchases by remembering your shipping and billing addresses.
Creating and Setting Up Your Account
To create a Macy's online account, visit macys.com and look for the "Sign In" option in the top right corner of the homepage. You will see a link that says "Create Account" or similar language. Click this link to begin the registration process. The website will ask you to enter your email address, which will become your username for logging in. You should use an email address you check regularly, as Macy's will send order confirmations and shipping updates to this address.

Next, you will create a password. A strong password for your Macy's account should contain at least eight characters and include uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols like ! or #. Avoid using easily guessed information such as your birth date or pet's name. Once you enter your password twice to confirm it matches, you will provide your first and last name. This name should match the name on your payment method to prevent problems during checkout.
After entering basic information, Macy's may ask whether you want to receive promotional emails about sales and new products. You can choose yes or no based on your preference. This choice does not affect your account or your ability to shop. You can change this setting later in your account preferences if you change your mind.
Once you complete all required fields, you will receive a confirmation email at the address you provided. This email may contain a link you need to click to verify your email address. Verification helps ensure that someone is not creating an account using another person's email address. After verification, your account is fully active and ready to use.
Some customers create accounts while shopping for the first time, and others create accounts before they plan to shop. Both approaches work equally well. You can browse Macy's website without an account, but having an account makes checkout faster on your next visit.
Practical Takeaway: Write down your email and password in a secure location after creating your account. If you forget your password later, you can use the "Forgot Password" link on the login page to reset it through your email.
Managing Your Billing Information and Payment Methods
Your billing information in a Macy's online account includes your billing address, which is the address associated with your payment method. This address should match what your bank or credit card company has on file. When you add a payment method to your account, Macy's will ask you to enter the cardholder's name, card number, expiration date, and security code (the three-digit number on the back of the card). You can store multiple payment methods in your account for convenience.

Macy's accepts various payment methods including major credit cards like Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover. The store also accepts the Macy's Star Rewards credit card, which is a store-branded card issued by Citibank. When you use the Macy's card, you may earn rewards points on your purchases, though the terms of those rewards are separate from your account. You can also pay with debit cards, though some security holds may apply with debit purchases.
When you store a payment method in your account, you can select it during checkout without re-entering all the information each time. However, you retain full control over which payment method you use. You can change your default payment method at any time, or you can select a different payment method for individual purchases. Storing payment information in your account is optional—you can enter payment details manually during checkout if you prefer not to save them.
You should review your stored payment methods regularly and remove any old cards you no longer use. To do this, log into your account, find the section for payment methods (often called "Wallets" or "Saved Cards"), and select the option to delete or remove the card. This practice reduces the risk if your account is ever compromised. If you notice any unauthorized transactions on your account, contact your bank or credit card company immediately, as they handle fraud disputes rather than Macy's.
Macy's online account does not store your full credit card information in plain text. Instead, the site uses tokenization, a security method that stores a coded reference to your card rather than the actual card number. This approach protects your financial information even if the site experiences a security issue.
Practical Takeaway: Keep your billing address current in your account. If you move, update your address before placing a new order to prevent shipping delays or failed deliveries.
Understanding Your Order History and Account Statements
Your order history in a Macy's online account shows every purchase you have made through macys.com. To view this history, log into your account and look for a section titled "Orders," "Order History," or "My Purchases." This section displays a list of all your online orders with details such as the order date, order number, items purchased, order total, and current status. Orders typically remain in your history for several years, so you can look back at past purchases if needed.

Each order in your history includes tracking information for any shipped items. You can click on an individual order to see more details, such as what you paid for each item, the shipping address, and the delivery or cancellation status. If an order contains multiple items, some may have shipped on different dates, and the tracking information will reflect when each item ships separately.
If you have a Macy's credit card associated with your account, you may see billing statements within your account, though you may need to look in a separate section or access statements through the credit card issuer's website (Citibank). Account statements show your monthly charges, payments, and remaining balance. If you do not have a Macy's credit card, statements do not appear in your account—your charges appear on whatever payment method you used.
Your account may also show a record of returns and refunds. When you return items purchased online, the refund is typically processed back to your original payment method within a certain timeframe, usually seven to ten business days. Your order history will show the status of these returns, and you can track when the refund was issued.
You can use your order history for reference when contacting Macy's customer service about a purchase. Having the order number available speeds up the process of locating your purchase in their system. Your order history also helps you remember what you bought and when, which can be useful for warranty claims or determining return eligibility based on purchase date.
Practical Takeaway: Save your order number when you place an online purchase. You can find this number in your confirmation email or in your account order history, and you will need it if you ever need to contact customer service about that order.
Managing Account Security and Personal Information
